Charging Your EV from Solar
If you have rooftop solar, a smart EV charger can detect when your panels are producing excess energy and automatically divert it to charge your vehicle. This means your EV runs on sunshine rather than grid electricity, significantly reducing your running costs.

ECO MODE
Uses only excess solar generation to charge.
ECO MODE
Uses solar first, tops up from the grid when needed.
FAST MODE
Charges at full speed regardless of solar output.
If you don't yet have solar, installing it alongside an EV charger is worth considering. The combination of solar + EV charging often delivers the strongest financial return of any residential energy investment, because you're replacing petrol costs with free solar energy.

Why Install a Dedicated EV Charger?
Most EVs come with a portable charger that plugs into a standard 10-amp power point. While this works, it's slow: a full charge can take 24–40+ hours depending on the vehicle. A dedicated home charger (Level 2, or AC charger) charges significantly faster, typically delivering a full charge overnight.

Beyond speed, a dedicated charger is safer for daily use than running a portable charger from a household socket. It's installed on a dedicated circuit with appropriate protection, and smart models let you schedule charging, track energy use, and prioritise solar.

Reducing costs
EV Charger Rebates & Finance
EV charger installations are not currently covered by STC rebates, but the charger itself may be covered under the NSW Home Energy Saver zero-interest loan program as part of a broader energy upgrade. If you're installing solar and an EV charger together, the solar component attracts STCs and the full package may be eligible for the loan.

What Do I Need for a Home EV Charger?
Switchboard Capacity
Your switchboard needs a dedicated circuit for the EV charger. If your switchboard is older or at capacity, it may need an upgrade, and we check this during the consultation.
Electrical Supply
Most Illawarra homes have single-phase power, supporting chargers up to 7.4kW. Some homes and most businesses have three-phase power, supporting faster chargers up to 22kW.
Installation Location
The charger is typically mounted on a garage wall near where you park. If your parking is further from the switchboard, additional cabling may be needed. We'll assess this on-site.
